Yeah, it looks dorky, but putting down the tailgate really does improve fuel efficiency, esp. on the highway. Just make sure you don't have any items (or dogs) in the bed, or that they are well secured. (A flag on the end of your gate is a courtesy to the driver behind you, too.)

Driving at night, or in earlier morning hours means less traffic and less idling time. This results in less gas usage, as well as less stress. Just be sure to rest up before heading out!

Inflate your tires with nitrogen instead of oxygen. The molecules are larger and will not leak as bad. Also, the molecules will not expand and contract with heat and cool like oxygen does.

When buying new wheels, spend the extra money for forged wheels rather than cast wheels to reduce the unsprung weight at each axle.

Also, check and change your air filter regularly. Not only do you prevent particles from "sneaking through" and getting into your engine, but you make it more easy for the engine to suck in the air, so you get more HP and/or more mpg.
